I'm a great fan of the good folks at HubSpot. Today they released a wonderful infographic on the history of marketing which I've embedded. For HubSpot's commentary, here's a link.
Only additions I'd make would be reference to the role PR has played in the modern evolution of marketing, going back to early luminaries such as Ivy Lee and Edward Bernays. Also would be good to look directly at the role PR has played in shaping some of the big events of the past 100 years. In any case, great work HubSpot!
