reinforces how brands are going to have to get much closer to their audiences than ever before in order to win their trust. 

The days of 'throw it over the wall' marketing strategies are long gone. Consumers demand that brands align with their personal values. Local competitors are typically better at doing this than large global brands. 

And I'd challenge any brand to look at how mobile is being used outside of the US (especially in China) if you want to see what the future holds. Or, more critically, get ahead of demand...
